PURPOSE OF POSITION

This Building Services team member position plays a vital role in cleaning and maintaining the facilities and equipment of the Basilica of Saint Mary. As an active parish community, as well as a Cathedral and registered historic landmark, it is crucial that all facilities and grounds are well maintained.

SCOPE OF POSITION

Reports to Security & Maintenance Manager. Regular weekly work schedule is Sunday – Wednesdays (Thursday – Saturday off) and serve as backup for other Building Services team members as needed (vacations, etc.). Work hours will be during the day (TBD) and evenings as needed (with notice).

Special Note: All Basilica Building Services Employees are notified that on the High Holy Days like Christmas and Easter and many Holidays the Building Services staff will be scheduled for work shifts. Working on these holidays is a requirement of this position. Hourly employees scheduled to work on Basilica Staff Holidays are compensated for their work at the rate of time and ½ of their normal hourly wage.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS/DUTIES AND MAJOR ACTIVITIES

Ø Be ready to work and on time for all scheduled hours.

Ø Assist with set-ups for events/ activities:

- Check the daily set-up board located in the Rectory - St Peter Room for all daily setups for meetings in the Undercroft and other buildings. Assist with any large set-ups as directed by either the Director of Building & Grounds or Night/Weekend Coordinator.

- Assist in decorating church for Holy Days and Holidays.

- Set up After Mass Hospitality for the Masses / clean up after hospitality.

Ø Serve as a member of the Basilica Safety and Security Team, as referenced in the Basilica of Saint Mary Safety and Security Manual. Assist as needed prior to the evening arrival of the Basilica’s uniformed security officers.

Ø Work with maintenance team to complete scheduled cleaning activities:

– Clean the floor in the St. Joseph Chapel daily and dust all furniture weekly.

– Prepare and clean all rooms used by wedding parties as needed after each wedding party has finished. On all weekends when weddings are scheduled provide a large garbage container in the Catherine of Sienna Room.

– Strip and wax Undercroft hallways and stairwells at least twice per year.

– Vacuum all carpeted areas daily.

– Sweep and wet mop hallways, stairs, and other non-carpeted areas daily.

– Maintain Undercroft kitchen in a very neat and orderly way. Assist with stocking of supplies.

– Remove trash and recyclables daily.

– Dust and polish furniture, doors, window frames, etc. monthly.

– Maintain Undercroft custodial equipment.

– Launder rags as needed.

– Clean undercroft maintenance/laundry room as needed.

– Shampoo rugs and carpets as needed (minimally twice per year)

– Clean all public restrooms at least daily and more often as needed in between each event.

Ø Complete additional weekend duties:

- SUNDAY:Take out trash in the Church, sacristy, and St. Cecelia room.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

Ø Assist with additional responsibilities as assigned by the Security & Maintenance Manager.

Ø CPR & AED trained and certified.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

· Three years’ experience in building maintenance and custodial duties

· Demonstrated ability to work independently handling a variety of functions.

· Ability to clean a variety of floor surfaces and operate a variety of floor care machinery.

· Boilers Operator’s License for 300 HP boiler preferred (C – Class 1 license)

· Self motivated, and must be able to interact with other staff, volunteers, and visitors.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

· Walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and speech are requirements in this position.

· Incumbent or applicant will exert a force of 100 lbs. occasionally.

• Operating and moving cleaning equipment, snow removal, moving furniture, receiving deliveries, etc.

· Ability to lift 50 pounds.

· Able to handle repetitive motions incurred from the general cleaning.

· Be present, ready to work and on time as scheduled.

· Ability to prioritize tasks, workloads, and workflow.

· Ability to defuse conflict and work with diverse people from all backgrounds.

· Ability to work eight or more hours in a given day as needed.

Employment in and by the Church is substantially different from secular employment.

Pay: $15.50 - $18.00 per hour
